SHELSLEY MEDIUM 25W-70 is a high-quality mineral multigrade engine oil with SAE 25W-70 viscosity, specially developed for vintage, pre-war, and early post-war vehicles up to model year 1950. The oil combines a very low detergent content with high zinc (ZDDP) and a very high operating temperature viscosity, making it extremely suitable for older engine designs that originally prescribed SAE 40 (or SAE 50) monograde oil.
Thanks to its higher hot viscosity, SHELSLEY MEDIUM offers extra protection under heavy loads, higher temperatures, and in engines with larger tolerances or visible wear. At the same time, its multigrade properties provide better cold start protection than traditional monograde oils, without the risk of dislodging old deposits.
A special "tacky additive" allows the oil to cling to internal components during downtime. In combination with additional rust inhibitors, this provides excellent protection against corrosion and internal wear during storage.
Application
SHELSLEY MEDIUM 25W-70 is developed for vintage, pre-war, and early post-war vehicles up to approximately 1950 and is suitable for petrol, kerosene, and diesel engines. The oil is intended for engines that originally prescribed SAE 40 (or SAE 50) monograde and can be used in engines with or without an oil filter. Thanks to its high viscosity, it is ideal for larger engines with dipper, trough, or early pressure lubrication systems, as well as for total-loss lubrication systems. In addition, SHELSLEY MEDIUM 25W-70 is very suitable for sleeve-valve engines, as used in Minerva, Mors, Knight, and Daimler, and for use in moderate to warm climate conditions.
Motorcycles
The oil is extremely suitable for pre-1950 motorcycles where SAE 40 or SAE 50 was prescribed, including systems with sight glasses, pilgrim oil pumps, and total-loss lubrication. It is suitable for wet clutches in applications where engine and gearbox oils are combined and is ideal for pre-war Harley-Davidson motorcycles and larger British and European classics, even in competition use and high operating temperatures.
For vehicles requiring higher detergency, Penrite Classic Medium is recommended.
